ABOUT
History
Northern Bru is Kuils River’s first craft beer brewing company established in the Northern Suburbs of the Western Cape, South Africa.
It pays homage to the northern communities of locals who are naturally passionate about beer.
We have taken the lead by painting a positive picture around this passion, which had no notable identity over the years.
With most South African craft beer brands being based in areas around Cape Town’s city centre or in distant farmlands, Northern Bru has established the much-needed middle ground by brewing a product for our people, by our people.

PREMIUM QUALITY
Northern Bru sources the world’s best malted barley, hops and yeast to brew unique flavour into our craft beer. This is managed by our master brewer Jan.
Master Founder
Juandre Jeptha
Juandre grew an early passion for fermented beverages, often experimenting at home by brewing craft beer and producing wine.
This passion led to him founding Northern Bru Brew Company in 2019, which has achieved notable traction on the local market. With his production experience, he’s been able to play an influential role in finalising our recipes and taste.
Juandre is the director of Northern Bru. He oversees the brand’s holistic operations.
Master Marketer
Gareth Duncan
Gareth was not born a beer enthusiast, but feel in love with craft beer after tasting Northern Bru in 2019. It didn’t take much for Juandre to convince Gareth to join the team.
As a Glenfiddich Maverick, his first preference has always been whisky, but his first kiss of Kuila Lager has opened his horizons and he now embraces the various craft beer brews.
Gareth is a partner in Northern Bru, and conceptualises and manages the overall brand and marketing.
Master Brewer
Jan Kaserer
Jan is one of a handful of qualified master brewers based in South Africa. We are fortunate to have him brewing our craft beer!
Born and bred in Salzburg, Austria, Jan has already amassed 9 years of experience in brewing craft beer. He’s worked at some of the top craft breweries in the world, including Bauhaus Gusswerk and Darling Brew, before settling at Dematech in Cape Town.
Jan ensures all our recipes are brewed to satisfy every sip.

Renzo Harris
Simply put, Renzo Harris loves a top-quality beer. And he confidently believes that Northern Bru is one of the best he’s ever tasted.
He’s been around since day one, tasting all of Juandre’s home recipes. And when he got his hands on the first Northern Bru, he knew that this brew was a winner.
Renzo is recognised as the people’s representative at Northern Bru, quality checking all our products before they enter the market.
